About The Artist

Born in Montpellier South of France to a Malagasy father and Spanish mother, Marina started developing a passion for drawing and crafts at an early age.Photo_41.jpg
“I remember loving going to preschool as a kid because it was such creative freedom: Markers, Finger-paint, and collage.”

The precocious artist won her first contest at the age of 9 in a local competition for young artists. Moving to California 3 years later, she enrolled in an L.A French school, which she graduated from in 2001.

Returning to Europe later that summer, Marina focused on learning about art in all its forms throughout books, documentaries and local art exhibits.

It was during an internship at a Costume Design Atelier in Prague that she started focusing primarily on painting.

The place I was staying at, belonged to a painter. Being in that environment really inspired me to start playing with colors shapes and textures.”

Back in California in 2004, She had a first art show at a Santa Monica Gallery and went on to show her work in local coffee shops and galleries.

Her style has been described as folk art meets Contemporary abstract.
She works with acrylics as a base which she then layers using sand, moss and other organic and recycled materials.

Her “Abstracts Portraits ” is an on-going series of Paintings that she has been working on for the past couple of years. Each piece explores a famous mythical figure of both the art, music and literature world.

The “Maps Series”, her more recent, is more focused on the texture than the evident outcome as in her earlier work. Inspired by the outlines of World maps and satellite renderings of various countries, she explores the themes of Globalization and World issues with a more abstract approach.  A work in progress…
